Wasn't sure where to post this but.....

A spammer joined my forum today, when someone I have never heard of joins a forum of mine, I always Google them (by their username) this particular person rang alarm bells with me because he joined using a disposable email address (spambob.net, there is also spambob.com & spambob.org) when I Googled this person, I found that he had joined a few other forums today, & also had joined others before today, each time, his profile states that he's from a different state in the USA, the username he signs up with is Linearlock, just so everyone can look out for this suspect person.

This brings me to a question, as spammers seem to be using disposable email addresses, is there a modification to ban all disposable email address domains from my forum?

Hi !
Yeah, it is a big problem with spamming but not only on forums
You can try to ban IP, anyway, if you ban his domain e-mail (it is not posible now), no problem he will find another e-mail to register so.....is not use.

You can ban username every time when he post and maybe you will try to ban IP is he use same IP.
Or you can try to make User activation accounts only by admin, so you will receive an e-mail every time an user try to register and you will activate or not his account.

Good luck.

Yes it's a huge problem, thanks for your advice, I'll make user accounts to be activated by admin only, I couldn't see this person's IP address at all because he wasn't logged in when I noticed he'd joined, & I couldn't find the IP anywhere else, I did also ban the username he used but he'll just use another one if he joins again probably, anyway, having user activation set to admin will help me keep a closer eye on things, thanks :D

When you are logged in as Admin of your forum, when a person post something you can see his IP (even it is or not online). I do not know what skin you are using, but allmost have this button named IP. For example this skin has this button on upper right of every post and is visible only when you are admin of the forum.

Even you activate by admin accounts, spammers still go on. They don't need to post as soon as the account is created, they can post even after one month. Many times spammers are not really persons, they are bots that post automaticaly :((
