Is there a way to disable the guest account on our forum? We're getting constant spam postings from various sources . . all of them done from the guest account.

1. Go to your administration panel

2. Under "Forum Admin" in the left frame, click "Permissions"

3. Select a forum from the drop-down box and click the "Look up Forum" button.

You will go to a page that says "Forum Permissions Control" at the top and a box that says "Simple Mode" a bit down from there.

4. Click the arrow to open the drop-down box.

You should see seven choices:
-- Public . . . . . . . . . . . . . .anybody can read and post in that forum, guests included
-- Registered . . . . . . . . . .guests may read, but not post
-- Registered [Hidden]. . . guests will not see the forum at all
-- Private . . . . . . . . . . . . .forum can be seen and read, but not posted in without specific permission
-- Private [Hidden] . . . . . only those with special permission will be able to see or post
-- Moderators . . . . . . . . . only the admin & mods can post, but all can read
-- Moderators [Hidden] . . only the admin & mods can see the forum

Choose the setting you want and click "Submit".

OR

Click "Advanced Mode" to get even more control over who can access what.

You must do this for each individual forum.

Depending on how you set your forum permissions, you may have to then either set individual user permissions, or create user groups and set group permissions.

Just warn your users that you're going to be tweaking the permissions, then play with things until you get them the way you want them. If users suddenly can't access things they're used to seeing, they will let you know! Laughing

Hi ArmyAunt

This wasn't my post but I just wanted to thank you for your replies on here, something The Admin should also do.

I recommended in another post on gen chat that they should make you a moderator.

Sorry if you haven't got the time for it but this place really needs a mod like you.

Just to let you know that your answers and help is very much appreciated.

Thank you

Very Happy
