Forum mods-

We have had a forum through free forums for about a year, and from time to time we get deluged with spambots. THe delete function is extremely tedious and takes a lot of time becuase you have to go through and delete each one, paste their stupid names in etc.

Also one of the names just contained the word f***ing (with out the asterisks) and I have word blocks on my forum. These names appear in all their glory at the bottom of my forum page, and I cant seem to find a feature that makes them invisible to my members.

My request is : if you cant stop the forum spambots, there needs to at least be a way to make them invisible. I have the feature on where I have to approve members, but they STILL show up anyway, even if I havent approved them.

THis needs to be rememdied, or I will need to seek a new forum service - we have underage members on our site.

I am very sorry to hear about your problem. Don't worry, they do read stuff, but it does take some time. It took a little over a week for them to get back to me, but when they did they really got results! The problem was completely fixed. (and i figured I'd respond to yours so it would get 'bumped' back up to the top )

Digimon- thank you for your encouragement, but I am still having an unbelievable amount of trouble with my forum.

I just had a spambot with f**king in the title again- the word blocks are useless, the fact that they have to register with me does nothing, the names still appear at the bottom of the page even though they are not approved. I have tried blocking emails, IP addresses, nothing works. I can't keep up with the 20-30 spambot sign ups that I am getting every day with obsene and suggestive names.

I will give this one week, and then I will have to shut down my forum. I dont knwo if free forums makes money off of the ads in the forums, but I have a site that gets 80K hits a month, so quite a few folks come through our forum.

I'm beginning to have the same problem. And i haven't found a plausable solution. One option might be to block the googlebot that reguarly searches your site. This might make it harder for the spam to find you.
